Hi. This is my second try to post my comment. This past few weeks I learned a lot about Digital Literacy. Before I even did not know what Digital Literacy is. I learned that everyone has to be very careful when searching for sources or giving their personal information on-line. Before posting anything a person has to check the post twice, because even deleted files can be restored. Now I am telling my kids to be very careful when using social networks such as "My space" or "Facebook".
HI Anna, I support your caution where the kids are involved with these social networks. It is so difficult to keep them safe. I too am a mother and my kids i feel are still too young to have space' on myspace or facebook, but they are growing and it scares me to imagine what is out there. I listen eagerly to CBC radio program "Spark" it talks about these issues. One evening it was discussing cyber-bulling which i did not know was a serious problem in schools.
It struck me in class how computers have penetrated our everyday lives, though it would be foolish of me to not acknowledge the many benefits they have brought with them, i am unsettled by this "development". Somethings we have lost i think though inconvenient where valuable. But this is for another discussion.
That said what did i learn in class about digital literacy? The loudest message i got, proceed with caution because once something is on the "web" it cannot be retrieved. I came across a new term - digital immortalilty. Also all the skills have similar requirements, critical thinking and continous learning. To understand new developments is important so as to always be able to effectively engage the various applications(digital medias) available. Also i have become even more cautious (paranoid perhaps) in my daily use of the computer.
Hi, I am in.
ReplyDeleteI posted my comment, but I don't see it in our blog. I did something wrong.
